The LabMAF project aims to contribute to a more aware, sustainable, and sophisticated seafood market that valorizes the role of small-scale fisheries in countries across the Mediterranean. Small-scale and artisanal fisheries in the Mediterranean represent an important element of coastal communities, provide local seafood supplies on a daily basis, and form an integral part of the cultural heritage. However, their contribution to the healthy, productive and resilient Mediterranean Sea remains insufficiently recognized both by policy makers and consumers.
During the first meeting, the group will map initiatives that give visibility to small scale fishery products, map seafood markets in different countries, and discuss how successful initiatives can be replicated in a transnational context.
This project is funded by BlueMed Initiative and is being coordinated by Jerneja Penca from the Euro-Mediterranean University (Slovenia).
